Well, last Tuesday, Michael had all of these removed and it has been a long week. He had been having issues with nighttime dryness and was snoring like a bear, so after a few doctor's visits, he was disgnosed with sleep apnea. So after enjoying a great week at Disney, we came home to celebrate Valentine's Day and then onto surgery on the 15th.
We drove to the hospital in the morning and Michael was his usual chatty-self until we got out of the car and walked into the registration/waiting area. Then it began. The anxiety. The nervousness. The fidgeting. And that was just me!!! Michael did fairly well (even though we had to wait over an hour!) and was pretty calm even while changing into the hospital gown and waiting in the pre-op area. At least there was a TV there in our little room and it was chock-full of kids stations. We walked with him to the doors of the OR and he was still smiling - maybe because his nurses promised him they would push his bed down the hallway as fast as they could!!
David and I walked out into the waiting area and only a short time later we were called back to talk to the doctor. He said the surgery went very well and the tonsils and adenoids came out very easily without much bleeding at all. He said the tissue and bones he removed from his nose were no problem either and it was only minutes until they took us into the recovery room to see him. Now, as a mom it was very hard to seee him drugged out and in pain. It didn't take too long before he started waking up and then the real fun began. (SACASM HERE, FOLKS!)
*side note: It's funny how when a nurse says something to you and then it starts happening. She is talking to David and I about the recovery process and going over what he should and shoudn't do and then very causually says, "Most, children will get sick from anesthesia".*
BINGO! that's all we needed to hear and so it began! Michael was sick off and on the rest of the day on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, oh and Sunday too! Needless to say, he has lost about 7 pounds and is still in a lot of pain. He does seem to be getting better though. He actually played with his Nintendo DS today and laughed a little at a CARS DVD.
I'm sure that in a few days he will be feeling much better and I will be too!
Wowza, that's a lot to lose in a day! Poor guy... praying the sickness stops soon.
